Well, I have a big, white refrigerator. Just the color of a ghost, right? Not as transparent, but you get the idea.
I love nature and river rocks. I could fib and say I got them from the beach up on Owasco Lake, one of the finger lakes of Upstate New York. The beach in front of an old family cabin is exactly that, mostly black, smooth rocks. So … ROCKY. So rustic. And, as it turns out, so ghost-feature-like.
Nope. Did not pick them up there. I could have, but Georgia is a long way from there, so I bought a bag of vase filler rocks from Target, a couple of years ago. Is that cheating? I say it is crafting smart, not hard! That plane ride would have been much more expensive than the bag of rocks! Look in the vase filler or the garden area of your local store.
Choose your fave eye and mouth shaped rocks and simply glue the little round, strong magnets onto the back of each. I usually use E-6000 glue or, even better, MODGE PODGE Dimensional Magic. Both work well for this. Let dry. (I let them sit for several hours, or even overnight.
Arrange them on YOUR white fridge, or filing cabinet, or any other metal surface that works for that invisible ghost! OOOOOOOOH, the ghosts moans.
The BOO U Magnet is sort of made the same way. I use the flat backed clear vase fillers. They are about 1″. I print up a sheet of words that are in keeping with the holiday. Let the sheet rest for a bit, so the ink is completely dry. Cut the words into rows with a guillotine cutter or scissors. Then use my 1″ circle punch to cut out the words.
I use the MOD PODGE Dimensional Magic as the clear “glue.” Love this stuff! I put a dot or two onto the front of the word. Then I drop the flat part of the glass onto the word. Make sure the entire piece of cut paper is filled to the edge with the squished glue. Don’t press down! That will leave some uneven looking parts of the glue, and will be hard to see through when it is all dry.
Turn the turtle, I mean the glass, onto its back and let it dry like that, with the paper on top of the heap. After it dries completely, add the round magnet to the paper, using a dot or two of the MODGE PODGE Dimensional Magic. Another magnet to add to your decor! Fun AND functional!
Just a tiny tip to add to your Halloween stash of home decor! Have fun with it!
