Dining Room |
Six days of full steam ahead. And I mean FULL STEAM.
In my last post I mentioned that we were contacted by a realtor who wanted us to have our house of 27 years SHOW READY. To prospective buyers who wanted to see THIS house. Perfect for them and met all of their specs.
Porch Room. Screen for Sale |
I have never moved so fast and for so long in all of my adult years. Well, except for that Christmas Eve when I was trying to finish a queen sized T-shirt quilt for a client, with my entire family helping. And our own gifts not even wrapped… (And I have said, “NO, thank you” when anyone has EVER wanted one of those things again. I still have a bag of my own daughters T-shirts that she is patiently waiting for me to make into a quilt.) Just too tedious for me.
Porch Room (Ladder up to clean vents) |
We have both cars completely full because we had no where else to put the stuff. Many boxes and bins piled high, and stuffed under the eves, which we vacuumed out for the only time in 27 years. Please tell me others haven’t vacuumed up under there, head tucked and walking like a duck, trailing the vacuum in that bent over space? It does look much better, though. And, full disclosure… HUBBY did the vacuuming. (He did have to walk like a duck.)
Porch Room (Cleaned Windows) |
All family photos stuffed into drawers, since the people are supposed to envision themselves in the space. I never thought I displayed very many of the family until I had to stash them.
We were WIPED OUT. We did so much. Then on the fifth day our realtor came to see the house for the first time and proceeded to tell us only what we still needed to do. We knew that, but at least a kind word on the house in general might have gone a long way in my book that day.
Family Room (Pillows and Comforter not yet stashed!) |
Family Room Fireplace (I scrubbed the hearth. Um, it REALLY needed it!) |
Do you think I should paint the insert High Heat Black, instead of trying to hide it? That is on my list, but haven’t done it yet. Obviously.
Family Room Bookcase |
I am selling most of my Blue Willow. Very old. Also selling the little side table. Not too precious. Simple. I can’t believe I have removed about two thirds of the stuff from the book case already, and it needs more.

Chamois and Copper Toilet Ball Valance |
My daughter gently told me a couple of nights ago my valance is too “taste specific.” I know, but it has always made me smile. Anyone want it?
Entry They Will Never See |
On the late afternoon of the day before they were to come, the realtor TEXTED us to say the potential buyers have changed their minds about coming to see the place.
The elementary school, Vanderlyn, that is one mile from our house, and where our own kids went to school, as of last year is NOT where future kids living in this house will go. They will now go to Dunwoody Elementary, which is one half mile from Vanderlyn, and even closer to us.
THAT was the deal breaker. We had NO idea we are no longer in that area. Would that not be a realtor’s job to have found that out at the beginning?
Remember, we do NOT have the house on the market. They asked us to see the place.
So, now we know. What a hard-learned lesson.
Beth’s Room (Her Wedding Dress recently hung in this room) |
NOW that I have had the fire lit under my fanny, and have rested a couple of days, I am digging deeper, but now have no place but OUT for my stuff. Mostly crafting stuff.

Enough of my ranting. On to the next cabinet.
